As the only ABA group exclusively dedicated to the needs of general practitioners and solo and small firm lawyers, GP|Solo recognizes that the diversity of our nearly 30,000 members brings a variety of unique and valuable skills and perspectives to the Division.

The Diversity Committee has the responsibility to ensure that its leadership and its membership maintain and increase the diversity within the Division. This bar year it is our goal to make the GP|Solo Diversity Committee the most active in the Division and the ABA! The committee offers many professional and social development opportunities for general practitioners and solo and small law firm lawyers, including:

1. Sponsoring CLE presentations;
2. Speaking opportunities;
3. Publishing articles in any one of the many GP|Solo publications; and
4. Developing relationships with other minority bar organizations.

2009/10 Diversity Fellows Program

The American Bar Association General Practice, Solo and Small Firm Division is pleased to announce the sponsorship of four Diversity fellowships in the Division during the 2009-2010 bar year. Successful applicants will be notified after the Division’s Spring meeting, May 7 – 9, 2009 in Cabo San Lucas, Mexico.

Goal IX is the ABA's internal initiative to further the full and equal participation in the legal profession by minorities, women, lawyers with disabilities, and lawyers with differing sexual orientations and gender identities. Each fall, the ABA’s Commission on Racial and Ethnic Diversity in the Profession, Commission on Women in the Profession and Commission on Mental and Physical Disability Law collect relevant diversity statistics throughout the Association and report them at the Midyear Meeting.

Once again, we’re proud to announce that the General Practice, Solo & Small Firm Division was awarded the ABA's 2007 Goal IX Honor Roll by the Commission on Mental and Physical Disability Law and the Commission on Racial and Ethnic Diversity in the Profession.

Not only did GP|Solo appear on both honor rolls, but it was also pointed out the Division was the only entity to have a person of disability participate in its CLE programming and author one of its publications.

As our schoolyards and workplaces continue to become a mosaic of cultures, the need for teaching tolerance remains a timely and important undertaking. You can be an instrumental part of teaching tolerance through education by participating in the General Practice Solo, and Small Firm Division's national public service project
