Advising the Qui Tam Whistleblower: From Identifying a Case to Filing Under the False Claims Act, Second Edition »

The qui tam provisions of the False Claims Act allow anyone who knows of a fraud conducted on the federal government to recover compensatory damages, civil penalties, and damages. Originally targeted in 1863 to stop dishonest suppliers to the Union military when the war effort hindered the government's ability to investigate and prosecute the cases, the statute gives individuals with evidence of fraud the opportunity to sue and collect damages on behalf of the government.
